My Trip to Fez: A Journey Through the Heart of Moroccan Civilization
One weekend, I decided to take a trip to Fez, a historical gem and one of the oldest cities in Morocco, and indeed, one of the oldest Islamic cities in the world. Fez is not just a tourist destination; it's an open-air museum that tells the story of centuries of culture, art, and religion.
Discovering the Magic of Fez
As soon as I arrived in the city, I felt transported to another time. Its narrow alleyways, ancient walls, and traditional souks took me on a journey through Moroccan history.
Highlights I Visited:
1. The Medina (Fez el-Bali):
The oldest part of the city, it boasts over 9,000 alleyways! I wandered through it for a long time, enjoying the sights of the bazaars, traditional workshops, and Moroccan-style houses.
2. Al-Qarawiyyin University:
I visited this historical landmark, the oldest continuously operating university in the world. Built in the 9th century, it is a symbol of Islamic science and knowledge.
3. Attarine Madrasa:
An architectural masterpiece from the Marinid era, adorned with zellige tiles and carved wood. A peaceful and beautiful place.
4. Bab Boujloud:
The famous Blue Gate, a main entrance to the old city. From here, the journey into historic Fez begins.
5. Dar Batha:
A museum housing artistic and archaeological artifacts representing the culture of ancient Fez.
Car Accident and the Procedures to Follow
On the second day of my trip, while traveling from one neighborhood to another, a minor car accident occurred. Fortunately, there were no injuries, but I followed the steps I recommend to every visitor:
1. Stop immediately and do not leave the scene of the accident.
2. Turn on your hazard lights and move the car off the road if possible.
3. Call the police at 19 or 177 (for highways).
4. Contact my insurance company to inform them of the accident and request assistance.
5. Document the accident with photos from all angles and exchange information with the other driver. 6. Filing a police report is necessary if there is material damage or a dispute between the parties.
Trip Summary
Despite the minor incident, it did not detract from the beauty of my trip to Fez. The city left a deep impression on me with its beauty, heritage, and authentic spirit. I recommend Fez to anyone wishing to discover the true face of Morocco.
